Goals for Bicycle Master Plan Moves Forward

SAN DIEGO, CA (June 21, 2018) -The City of San Diego's Environment Committee today unanimously approved a Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) for the City's Bicycle Master Plan (BMP), which was adopted by the City Council on December 9, 2013, and provides a broad vision, strategies, and actions for improvements to bicycling in San Diego.

The Plan will guide development and maintenance of San Diego's bicycle network, including all roadways that bicyclists have a legal right to use and support facilities over the next 20 years.

Among the objectives in the Strategic Implementation Plan are:

o Increase Bicycle Mode Share in Transit Priority Areas to 6% by 2020 and 18% by 2035; consistent with the City's Climate Action Plan
o Improve bicyclist safety by reducing crash rates City-wide
o Increase funding toward bicycle program
o Provide education to all road and transit users
o Improve City institutional collaboration on bicycle issues
o Evaluate bicycle program effectiveness
