I received the public notice concerning the potential to sell the Old Central Library site, located at 820 E Street on January 25, 2017. The notice said to inform you if there was a desire to retain the property, and that otherwise, if no issues were raised within 60 days, the property would be cleared for sale.
This property should be considered as a site to provide permanent shelter to the homeless population. It is located in an area of downtown that is close to a significant population of homeless families and individuals. As the City continues to search for solutions to a growing homeless population, it is critical that assets currently available be seriously considered to serve as shelter sites that also provide supportive services. It is my desire that the City retain this property and study the feasibility of converting it into a year round homeless shelter.
