City Council Approves Placing Measure on November Ballot to Save San Diego High School

August 2, 2016

SAN DIEGO, CA (August 2, 2016) – The San Diego City Council today approved a November ballot measure that would amend Charter Section 55:  Park and Recreation, which would allow San Diego High School to continue to operate at its current location.

“San Diego High is one of the oldest high schools in the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) and one of the oldest public schools in all of California,” stated Alvarez.  “Since 1882, generations of San Diegans graduated from San Diego High and today, the campus is a public asset for the entire community.  I am confident, with the approval of the voters, generations of future students will benefit from the value this public institution has given to many alumni and San Diegans.”

SDUSD has agreed to contribute towards the cost of the election. Today’s action also named Councilmember David Alvarez as the authorized signature and filer of a written ballot argument in favor of this ballot measure.
