SAN DIEGO (July 11, 2016) – A ballot proposal which would have required the disclosure of the City of San Diego’s public business conducted on private and personal devices of all City employees was defeated today by the San Diego City Council.
“The action taken today by the City Council was a devious ploy to ensure that this open government measure never reaches the voters,” said Councilmember Alvarez, who has been pursuing these changes for several years.
“I want to thank CalAware and Councilmembers Emerald and Gloria for their support of open government. I am disappointed that the rest of the Council chose not to take this opportunity to make San Diego a leader in open government and transparency,” said Alvarez.
This is the third time the City Council has rejected this measure.
“I look forward to the day when the City takes open government seriously and I will continue to fight until that happens,” concluded Alvarez.
