SAN DIEGO (November 7, 2017) – Councilmember Alvarez today formally requested the Council President to docket a discussion of a City Charter amendment to be considered by the voters in 2018 to dedicate future Transient Occupancy Tax revenue for the next 20 years to fund homelessness services, shelters, and permanent supportive housing solutions.
“Every proposal brought forward to address homelessness has been costly and ineffective,” stated Alvarez. “An open and transparent process is needed to bring forward a proposal for voters to consider in 2018. It is time for the City of San Diego to have a dedicated funding stream solely for the purpose of providing permanent supportive housing and services needed to address this crisis.”
